Education and experience
Prof. Dr. Dursun Aras successfully completed the medical education in 1996 at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine and received the title of medical doctor. Prof. Dr. Aras completed the specialty training in 2001 at Ankara Yüksek İhtisas Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi and became a Specialist in Cardiology.
Dr. Dursun Aras received the title of Associate Professor in 2006 and that of Professor in 2012. To take the professional vision to the international level, Dr. Aras spent time in 2005 as an observer at Maastricht University in the Netherlands in the field of arrhythmia and ablation, and applied the knowledge gained there in the clinical practice in Turkey. After serving for many years at Ankara Yüksek İhtisas Hastanesi, when the institution moved to Ankara Şehir Hastanesi in 2019, Dr. Dursun Aras continued the academic and clinical activities at this center by founding the Arrhythmia Clinic.
Prof. Dr. Dursun Aras is one of Turkey’s leading specialists in heart rhythm disorders and their treatment. Over the course of the career, Prof. Dr. Aras has performed ablation in more than twenty thousand patients and has gained immense experience in implanting pacemakers, ICDs (shock devices) and three-lead heart failure pacemakers (CRT). In complex arrhythmias (SVT, AF, VES and VT), through operations performed using advanced 3-dimensional mapping techniques, Prof. Dr. Aras has not only provided treatment but has also taught in these fields and contributed to the training of many arrhythmia specialists.
Taking a pioneering role in medical innovations and “firsts”, Dr. Dursun Aras has carried out, for the first time in Turkey and in very few centers in the world, the series of Radiation Therapy with Ablation (SBRT). Dr. Aras has also performed, for the first time in Turkey, ventricular tachycardia ablations by entering the heart through small surgical windows, and complex ablation operations in high-risk patients by passing through the wall between the two ventricles. Dr. Aras is one of the physicians who applied Pulsed Field Ablasyon (PFA), a new ablation technology, for the first time in Turkey.
Active also in academic and administrative leadership roles, Prof. Dr. Aras served within the Turkish Society of Cardiology (TKD) as Chair of the Arrhythmia Working Group between 2016 and 2018, as a Member of the TKD Board of Directors between 2021 and 2023, and as Vice President of the TKD between 2023 and 2025. Since 2026, Prof. Dr. Aras has continued to serve as Secretary General of the TKD.
With the scientific productivity, Dr. Dursun Aras has earned a strong place in the international literature: more than 300 published international articles and authorship of many book chapters. Member of many scientific boards and session chair at national and international cardiology and arrhythmia congresses. Congresses, courses and symposiums have been organized. Many talks and lectures given on arrhythmia and ablation.
Prof. Dr. Dursun Aras continues to provide patients with up-to-date, science-based, high-standard health care, combining deep clinical experience and academic knowledge with modern medical approaches.
